The painting shows the famous single-seat fighter plane from World War I – Fokker Dr. I with serial number 454/17. This aircraft was flown by Jasta 11 pilot Lothar von Richthofen, the younger brother of the legendary Red Baron.
Lothar, unlike his older brother Manfred von Richthofen, survived the war and with 40 confirmed kills, awarded the Pour le Merite, was one of the most successful German pilots.
